'Emma Stone' graphite portrait

Description

After finally getting to grasps with the basics of drawing portraits i decided to have a short break. But i'm now back to try and push myself to the next level by really concentrateing on 'skin textures'. Although i'm ok doing skin textures on men, i'm not so comfortable doing them on women.

I chose 'emma stone' for a number of reasons, with the main being that she has alot of freckles and detail on her skin. Secondly because she was one of the first drawings i attempted to do skin textures on 6 months ago when i first started using graphite, you can see it here [link]. And lastly because she's a really good actress, who i haven't seen do a bad film so far.

My break also lasted a bit longer than planned as i've got a 'callus' on my finger, from drawing so much. It's still there, and can be irrating but i waited long enough for it clear up, and just couldn't wait any longer.

Here are some of my other graphite drawings.

Not my favourite to be honest, I liked the Marylin one much better. I think theres a few flaws, over all it looks quite good, firstly the collarbone is... uh not there, well I can't see it very well.
Next the teeth look a little too bright, and looks like it's sticking out a little too much.
Another thing is the hair, most of it is good, but while making the hair look realistic, you made some little hairs "stick out" like they would do in normal hair, only here it looks out of place and just "stuck on".

The super subtle shadow the hair is non-existent as well, but that is probably very hard to do without making it look ugly.

I also think that her cheek is slightly too defined a very little bit. For me I understand what you're trying to do, it DOES look defined in real life, but somehow fits in, for me it seems to stick out a little, maybe it's just me I don't know.

As always I like the shiny stuff haha, earrings and eyes look great as ever.

Your skin texture and lips have also improved dramatically, since the last time, they look lots better now . The texture took me back this time, I thought they looked almost life like. The lips have a beautiful shine and the skin has blemishes that although some may not like, I like as it shows the amount of realism you are going for. You just have to work on some of the other things.

A well done job overall, expected nothing less of course with someone at your level. All the best on reaching your goal of hyperrealism my friend!
