'Ferrari 458 Italia' Graphite drawing by Pen-Tacular-Artist 'Ferrari 458 Italia' Graphite drawing by Pen-Tacular-Artist
After taking around 60 hours to finish this, my first car graphite drawing, i'm not planning on doing another one any time soon as it was real tough to draw. And as i said during my journal i'm going to try new things that will push me and take me out of my comfort zone. And drawing a car is something i've only done around 3-4 times in my whole life.

I'm also not much of a car fan, but i do love ferraris, especially the '458 itaia' which is why i chose this car to draw. On top of challengeing myself to draw a car i also tried my best to see if i can get the sense of speed, which i think i have achieved.

The drawing Was done on A3 bristol board, using standard and mechanical graphite pencils. And took about 60 hours to complete over 5 days.

Here are some of my other graphite drawings.

I knew you were good with reflective surfaces, but holy shit, man! This is terrific work!

The focal point is the car, and the point is nicely achieved.

The windows feel like an actual transparency, and the dim shading around the driver's face couldn't be more perfect. You could barely make out the details of his face, but make out enough to give him an obvious expression. The texture of the metal icon on the hood is great, the shading separates it nicely from the other metals. The interior of the car is nicely done as well. The feel I would expect would be leather, while the rest looks like a sturdy vinyl. I legitimately feel as though I'm looking at a photo of a 'Ferrari 458 Italia'. If not, than a slightly altered one. The structures, mountains, and trees are great. The branches look natural, and are styled well with distance they are away. Though, the flags seem a bit larger for their distance, the clouds appear too be that of giant roots in the sky, and the grass shows cartoonish outlines. The background isn't as realistic, as it appears more to be that of a far away graphite landscape. However, as you move away from the distance, and come closer and closer to the focal point, the vehicle, along with the road, picks up speed and amazing detail, deteriorating from an imaginative world into reality. A bit like an imaginative transition.

Those last two sentences were just a feeling it gave me. Great job as always!

This one is going to be a short one.

First I would like to say that seeing as you don't like drawing cars, this is already amazing. However I'll go into a little detail as to what I do like or not and why, as always negatives then positives.

I would say that the car itself is not bad in terms of shape, it's beautiful shape as always you get the proportions right. However I personally don't think you did the shading too well. The main part would be the hood for me, that part really sticks out compared to the rest of the car as matte compared to reflective. However I do understand why it does stick out because in the reference picture, it is more block colour than anything. However for me reflections on cars especially need to be sharp and neat. I personally feel that the hood looks opposite to the sharpness needed. Thus making it look weird to me.

Another thing that I personally think could have been done better in terms of the reference picture would be the front windshield, the reflection in the reference picture is much more dominant compared to this. This one makes it look less reflective and more see through which I personally don't like.

Also compared to the reference picture the interior of the car looks reflective compared to sharp shadows which I feel takes away from the hyper realism. For instance the seat and right door of the car. In this piece, the interior looks more blended rather than sharp and clean.

In contrast to the above, I think that the road and grass is too sharp in terms of lines and could be blurred a little to give more focus to the car itself. In the reference picture there are lines, however they are much softer in my opinion.

Now for the positives, I really do love the car's reflection at the back parts I think they are pretty much perfect, they go really well and have that clean feel to it.

I also feel that the buildings in the background and the flags + signs are done well and look quite good to me.

I love the sharpness of the ferrari logo on the front of the car too it fits perfectly in and looks great!

I believe you did this piece with much more speed than others, so forgive me if I was a little harsh. I hope this was a good learning curve as you mentioned you haven't really drawn cars before so this is still VERY good for your first time so kudos to you! Can't wait to see more of your work as always and to see your art evolve!
